Reverse Engineering

Start with your end in mine says Coach, Tony Inman

Would you build a house with no design plan and say to your builder, ‘Let’s just wing it and see how it turns out?’ I’m guessing that aside from a few eccentric types or perhaps those building a jungle house out of branches, the answer would probably be no.

Yet, so many business owners put very little thought into where they plan to head. They’re ‘too busy’ just surviving for that.

If you want a business that’s built to last, perhaps even to sell; heaven forbid, even one that you can take a holiday from and leave your people in charge (!), then I’d urge you to consider the concept of reverse engineering. In plain talk, it’s called ‘start with the end in mind’. It also applies to the way you want the business to impact on your life.

Think about what you want to happen. You might not yet be ready to sell – that’s way off in the distant future, except that one day it’s not. At least, think about your options and your preferences; then work backwards from there.

As a coach, that’s what I help people do – get you from where you are now to where you want to be.
It’s time to go back to the future!
