Who wouldn’t want the chance to win a ‘no strings attached’ free holiday?
I’m sure you’re probably aware if you’ve read some of my posts that I’m a great believer in work and life balance, so I’m always advocating how important it is for owners of small businesses to recharge their batteries and take a well-earned break from the daily grind.
Thus, it was a ‘no-brainer’ from me when the opportunity arose with one of my clients, Andrew Patterson from SCA Finance to offer both his clients and mine the chance to win a free holiday in beautiful Mauritius.
There aren’t any catches – you’ll get a contact email of course, but there are no obligations and you can unsubscribe if you want, so you don’t need to worry about SPAM etc.
Hold on a minute though…if you own a small business you might be thinking one or more of the following…
Even if I did win, how would I manage to take time away from my business?
Surely, there must be a catch to this – after all, nobody gives away anything for nothing, right?
How do I know this is a legitimate competition?
If I enter this, will it mean that I get hassled with loads of SPAM and unwanted phone calls?
These are all great questions when someone offers you something as awesome as a free holiday in one of the world’s best destinations because, after all, we get so used to hearing marketing tricks these days, that many of us have become understandably sceptical.
So let’s address those points…
(1) How to Free Up Time to Get Away from Your Business
It may come as no surprise to you that, as a business and life coach, it’s part of my mantra to set up your business so that you can have a better life. I always make time to plan for escapes – I always have. It’s part of the old ‘sharpening the saw or the axe’ analogy, that when you take a well-earned rest from your business, you return with a free perspective, renewed enthusiasm and will often be far more creative about solving your daily problems.
One of the things I do with my clients is to firstly make sure that they set the goal to take a break, then make it real by planning for it, and make it happen by creatively visualising it and developing a strategy to prepare the business, your support team (if you have one) and even your customers for your planned absence.
I can honestly tell you that my clients and readers of my book, ‘If Life’s Worth Doing, It’s Worth Doing Well’, get to go on more vacations than they would previously have imagined possible, because we put the right systems, and people, in place.
Not only that, but part of my reasoning is that if you can take a break, knowing that your business can survive (and hopefully even continue to grow) without you, then you have not only done your job as a leader and manager well, but you have also added value to your business.

(2) What’s the Catch to This ‘Free Holiday’ Concept?
Of course it’s got to be a scam – nobody gives away anything for free these days, right?
If you don’t know me, I’d forgive you for asking that. If you do know me, however, you’d know that there’s no way I’d consciously be involved in anything that wasn’t ‘fair dinkum’ and above board!
Yes, this is a marketing concept to help both Andrew and I to connect with more people and to enable more potential customers to become aware that we exist.
When you enter the competition, there are a couple of prompter questions that might alert you to the possibility that you may be seeking some help in the areas in which we specialise. If that’s the case, we’ll touch base to see if we can help you, because Andrew is in the business of helping people to secure finance, and he’s brilliant and highly experienced at doing that. I’m in the business of helping people to start businesses and grow businesses, so they can have a better life by achieving their goals.
So this competition will give you the chance to win a genuinely free holiday, that has legitimately been offered as a promotional give-away, so we can have the possibility of finding more people we can help. (3) How Do I Know It’s a Legitimate Competition and There is a Free Holiday?
Australia is a highly-regulated country – if you’re in business, you don’t need me to tell you that!

(4) In Trying to Win a Free Holiday, Will I Be Bombarded with SPAM Emails and Unwanted Phone Calls?
In short, absolutely not! If there is a facet of our services that may interest you, there will be an opportunity to connect with us. If at any time, you wish to disconnect, you can simply unsubscribe from any email we may send you. There is also an opportunity for you to take free information from us and come back to us whenever it suits you.
We know that enough people WILL be interested in what we offer, to keep us busy, so we certainly won’t be hassling people. This is a promotional initiative that we’ll be following up ourselves, not some foreign call centre.
