The Power of the Mastermind Alliance
The famous author, Napoleon Hill conducted years of research on some of America's most successful entrepreneurs as far back as the 1930's and found without exception that these captains of industry liked to surround themselves with what he called a 'mastermind alliance'. They recognised that nobody can be an expert in every field and that when several bright minds collaborated together to discuss opportunities or problems alike, the synergy of the group created the equivalent of an extra mind, a kind of unseen force that added an extra dose of wisdom.
In fact, any student of history could contend that all the great leaders since mankind appeared have surrounded themselves with a learned council, even though they often ignored the wise advice and followed their insatiable human thirst for power and wealth, often to their eventual detriment.
In today's fast-changing world, there's no way any business leader, or national leader can possibly keep pace with the speed of evolution. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is only accelerating that change at an exponential pace. So, it makes absolute sense to seek wise heads who are experts in different fields to you. There's an old adage that still holds true today- 'It's not what you know, it's who you know, that matters.' My father used to contend that 'Everyone has something to teach you'.
My Role as a Facilitator
For many years, I have facilitated mastermind groups, combining key elements that are very useful to owners of small businesses:
- Social support - it can be lonely in small business when you are the boss and your staff may not understand the pressures you face, like other business owners do.
- A fresh perspective - you know that saying, 'You can't see the wood for the trees!' Sometimes, you just need to remove yourself from that environment to see things from a different angle.

- Ideas - I have seen so many people discover amazing ideas as a result of the conversations at these group meetings. These can often be practically applied to your business and increase your chances of success.
- Fun - these meetings can be entertaining as well, which is good for your soul.
- Pleasant food or refreshments - a great breakfast, or a hearty lunch and a really good coffee can make a big difference to your day!
