Speaking Engagements Can Be Hard to Fill, but Why Have Tony Inman as a Presenter?
What Can You Expect From Tony Inman – ‘The Presenter’ and How Can I Inspire You?
I believe in the amazing words written by Marianne Williamson and spoken by President Nelson Mandela on his inauguration speech in 1994 in South Africa:
“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I read somewhere that most people are so terrified of public speaking that if you were to ask them to deliver a eulogy at a funeral, they’d rather be the one in the box than the one speaking! To me, it has become something I enjoy doing because in teaching others, I find that I am also teaching myself as I go.
My father taught me that ‘Every single person can teach you something you don’t know’. Sometimes, even when you do already know it, you just need to hear someone else say it before you will finally act on it. Presenting, or public speaking gives you an opportunity to create a ripple of influence of which you may have no control – your words just might inspire one of your audience to go off and change the world. That is a very exciting thought.
When you attend group trainings, workshops or seminars you may feel changed forever – why?
The reason is because something someone will say will resonate with you. If the speakers is really bad it might not even be them, it might be another member of the audience!
I’m a great believer that when you’re ready to learn something, the teacher will come along and that penny will finally drop for you.
One seminar I attended many years ago was with the author, inspirational speaker and humourist, Charlie Tremendous Jones. He said that, “You’ll be the same person in five years as you are today, except for three things – the books you read, the tapes you listen to and the people you meet.”
To that quote I would add a fourth instrument of change – the speakers, workshops or seminars that you attend or to whose recordings you listen or watch. Mind you, he did sort of cover it by mentioning the people that you meet, and you meet people at those events.
I would also add a key point for you to consider at the risk of being controversial, which is that when you attend an event, it is your responsibility alone to make sure you learn something. It is not the speaker’s responsibility to make sure you get it.
The reason for that is that you cannot make someone learn something – they have to be receptive.
So there is an example of what to expect from me – I speak with honesty and integrity and in accordance with my values, one of which is humour, so I try to be a little entertaining rather than having my audience doze off to sleep!
My Main Message
My biggest and most important message for you at every opportunity is that I want YOU to make the most of your business, but more importantly, I want YOU to make the most of your life.
That’s why I’ve written books on the topic; given talks about fulfilling your life’s potential; spoken about it in public and on radio.
Your business is important absolutely, but it is not as important as your significant relationship, your family or your health. Maintaining the mindset to keep that balance is a crucial component of living a memorable and spiritually healthy life.
Some might disagree with that, though if you were to ask them on their death bed if they have any regrets, I’ll wager that one of the things I just mentioned will appear on their list.
Types of Public Speaking / Presenting that I Do
My presentations are usually (though not exclusively) in the form of one of the following:
Talks to Business Networking Groups – I frequently give talks about different aspects of business, such as leadership, communication, mindset or work/life balance.
Invited Speeches – I have spoken alas at funerals and happily at weddings and special celebrations. I have spoken on topics appropriate to the audience and I am happy to do so.
Book Launch Speeches – I have spoken at the launch parties in support of my books.
– I have given various seminars, mostly about my favourite topics of mindset, the way we program ourselves either for success or failure, and how to make sure you make the most of your abilities with effective goal-setting and follow up action.
Group Mentoring, Workshops or Training Facilitation – I often work with key staff or members of the management team of my clients, particularly on topics like defining the company’s purpose, vision, values and mission. Over the next year, I will be running some mentoring groups on business improvement topics for owners of small and medium businesses. see Training and Workshops
If you are a business owner and you have any topics that think would benefit your team, please feel free to contact me to discuss it.
Likewise, if you have an audience who might need a speaker about one of the topics I mentioned above regarding making the most of life, please get in touch.
You can leave me a message using the website contact form or by calling on (08) 9328 2203.
Thank you so much Tony. I found that really useful. Well done!
A very professional and worthwhile evening. The message was delivered in an entertaining and interesting talk. Tony was very articulate and fluent
I think it’s really important to know this stuff, and even if think we do, we all need to be reminded of it as often as possible because we forget
I really identified with some of the examples you gave Tony. Both Selwyn and I did in fact…And we’re buying your book as well. We both learnt heaps!
